Bio-Mos at Weaning

At this point, you have probably heard of or even used Bio-Mos before in your feeding programs. But what exactly is it and why is it worth the extra cost? Bio-Mos is derived from a strain of yeast called Saccharomyces cerevisiae and acts similarly to a probiotic. It works as a decoy in the guts, attracting and binding to the bad bugs so that they cannot cause harm to the animal. This effect allows for good bugs to flourish and support the immune system more effectively.

When fed at times of stress, (i.e. weaning, shipping. etc.) it has been shown to reduce respiratory problems, and death loss. When feeding Bio-Mos products during these times of stress placement of the product is important to encourage consumption. Place barrels and mineral feeders along commonly traveled paths and along fence lines where calves often pace. Such placement interrupts the pattern of travel and increases curiosity and intake. As the saying goes “an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure,” so stop in for your Bio-Mos products and experience the benefits this season!
